The guide is for forest communities, forest management certificate holders, and FSC-accredited certification bodies. And it aims to state as clearly as possible how relevant parties can participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of an FPIC process that adheres with principle three and principle four of the FSC Principles and Criteria and their respective international generic indicators (IGIs).
The first version of the guide – FSC-GUI-30-003 FSC Guidelines for the Implementation of the Right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) – was first published in 2012. On 1 June 2018, a group of experts that includes land use and customary rights from different regions of the world, was tasked with revising the current guide and developing a second version by 31 December 2019.
